Short summary of the Project:
Household lighting is considered to be one of the basic requirements of the Society. In Orissa, (India) 5.7 million households are to this day compelled to use Kerosene based wicked lamps for household lighting, as they do not have access to electricity because of geographical remoteness or they lack financial capacity to pay for the electricity.
This form of lighting is neither cost effective nor environmental friendly. These lamps pose a fife hazards and the fumes harm people’s eye and lungs; especially those of children and women because they sit close to it in evinings white studying of preparing food. Accidents are common and many children suffer sever burns each year primarily from up-turned kerosene lamps, further many homes are raised to the ground when a lamp is toppled. It also contribute to global warming due to release of Co2.
The aim is to displace the kerosene wicked lamps by solar based LED home lighting system, thus improving the livelihood of the rural people.
